Almost done with the studiio

Got a few more things finished in the studio.

Finally finished the futon cover

I also made a clock

(Make that 2 clocks - couldn't read the time so well on the first one - I've got to find red hands for it.)

You can actually SEE the time on this one.

Put some hex mirrors up between the windows. Cool but weird. I keep thinking that the curtains are open and I can see the outside ... little disconcerting from the corner of the eye. :)

I got the throw quilted/tied and bound. Went with black minkee for the back, red floss for the tying/knots, and red for the binding.

The only things left to do in here are curtains, maybe a new sewing machine cover, and possibly cushions for the little black and red stool/footstools.

I've also recently made a baby quilt for a past coworker of the hubby. Quick and easy pattern. Came out pretty cute.

I like how it looks when you're standing in the doorway of the studio.

Now to figure out what I'm going to finish up next. I do have a few things that are waiting for a couple of final steps. I also have a bunch of things I WANT to make but haven't started yet.

So many projects, so little time. :)

It's another BABY!! (quiilt and bag)

Joy's baby shower was Sunday. She's due the end of January and is enjoying being pregnant

I was the only person who made her gift. Going with her robot theme I made a quilt and bag.

Front of quilt.

Orange minkey and this on the back:

And this freakin' HUGE bag (23x18x6)

I've decided I love the bag. :)

Giifts for Baby Season

Is it ever NOT baby season for a quilter? Sometimes I think baby quilts are the most quilting I do. Nevertheless, they're always fun to make and imagine the little bundles of joy that will be sleeping under and on top of what I've put time, effort, and love into. I've done two for gifts lately

Number one was for my boss at my retail job (aka J.O.B. #2). This was baby number 3 for her. I had a hard time deciding what to go with and finally decided on butterflies.

The next one was for someone that my husband works with. Again, tough to decide what to do. Jungle/Monkeys seemed to fit the bill.

I've got 2 more that I need to do in the very near future. One is a collaboration quilt with a co-worker at J.O.B. #2 for another co-worker at J.O.B. #2. K's doing some cross stitch blocks and I'll be using the embroidered blocks in a bag, changing pad, and quilt. I'll base the final blocks and layout on what K's done for cross stitch. We've got about 4-5 months to get this worked up.

The other baby quilt gift I'm still noodling on is for one of my favorite drive-thru baristas. This will be daughter number 5 if I remember correctly. I'm debating working a coffee theme into it but I'm not sure yet. I've got about 2 more months for this one.

A quilter's joy is never done. :)

More Baby Biirds

Another person I know and/or work with is having a baby. Yep, the seemingly obligatory baby gift is done. Not obligatory by any stretch as Kathy is not only a coworker but a friend.

She's been working on a cross stitch Jungle Babies blanket so I decided to follow the Jungle Babies theme with my gift. I dug through my stash and found the perfect fabrics to use. I started with a changing pad made with flannel backed vinyl:

Next was a diaper and wipes case:

Then the bag:
front:

back:

inside:

And last but not by any means least, the quilt. 4 paper pieced animals:
Elephant:

Giraffe:

Monkey:

Lion:

Got the top finished and then the whole thing quilted and self-bound with the backing fabric:

And finally the quilt label:
I scanned a portion of the outer pocket fabric from the bag and played with it in Photoshop to get the baby's name and "made by" information on it the way I wanted it. I put a small version of the label on each of the other parts of the gift. I hope she likes it!

Baby quiilts

Got a couple of baby quilts I should make. One for a co-worker and one for a family member. The co-worker is having a girl and the family member had a boy. I've got some fabrics picked out for both but am having a hard time deciding on a pattern. Given the amount of free time I have, probably the simpler the better. :)
